If your church is planning to do Beth Moore’s study on James in 2012, get ready for some goodness! After doing today’s homework, the following quote grabbed me:
The power of the resurrection trumps the power of the past if we’re willing to let it… When… the call of Christ sears a hole through your self-protectiveness, you go wherever He leads whether or not you feel like you fit. How will we ever press onward through the hot winds of hell if we can’t even get past awkward?
In this season of my life, awkward isn’t bothering me as much as it has in seasons gone by. I can’t recall any recent awkward moments since being here in Busan, but when you are in a context that you expect to be a complete change from your home, awkward seems normal. When recalling certain awkward moments in the past, however, I can still feel the discomfort in my gut just reliving the memories themselves. Isn’t it amazing that Jesus overcomes anything negative in our past? Anything, even that thing you refuse to believe; He can overcome. Is there anything the power of the resurrection can’t overcome? AMAZING!!
Lord, help us move past the things that hinder us from trusting You. Help us relinquish our self-protectiveness and embrace awkwardness when You are trying to take us to something greater than our discomfort. Help us enlarge our views of Your power and trust that You can do what You have clearly stated You can do. Help us sense You and be more in tune with the Holy Spirit as He gives us discernment in situations. Amen.
What are moments that you’ve let awkward overwhelm your desire to embrace or share the gospel?
As you know, I often feel awkward in the church. It can be tempting to run away, back to my safe haven of weirdness. Thanks for encouraging me to stick it out and do something greater in the church.
Any time, D! Who hasn’t been there… in the church, in a variety of contexts where God specifically wants us? Love you!!!
